A doorknob or lever handle will have one of the following:
ZERO keyholes (passage or privacy function)
ONE keyhole (keyed entry or storeroom function)
TWO keyholes (usually only in commercial, school, or industrial functions).
A deadbolt will be either:
single cylinder with ONE keyhole outside and a thumb-turn on the inside
double cylinder with TWO keyholes, one inside and one outside.
Therefore an average door with a knob or lever and a deadbolt may have 1, 2, or 3 keyholes on that door.
In the state of New Jersey, all locksmiths are required to be licensed as an indivial or through the locksmithing firm.
In the state of Pennsylvania, there is no locksmith license at this time, but locksmith services are required to be a registered home improvement contractor through the attorney general's office.
Not all the time. Standard locksets are able to be rekeyed but some restricted locks can not be.
Keys marked "Do Not Duplicate," " Do Not Copy," or "Unlawful to Copy" may be duplicated only if a letter of authorization from the owner or supervisor is presented with the request for duplication. The letter should be on company letterhead and identify the key to be made, the number of keys, the person picking up the keys, and the name and number of the person writing the letter. The person picking up the keys will be required to fill out a "Request for Restricted Keys" form. We reserve the right to refuse to duplicate any key marked "Do Not Duplicate."
No. While we respect the "Do Not Duplicate" marking on a key, many discount stores do not. To effectively prevent unauthorized key duplication, a restricted key lock should be used such as Medeco, Mul-T-lock, or Best Interchagable Core locks.
